Welcome aboard, I am Capt. Wayne Canning, Master Boat Builder and Marine Surveyor. I started this site to fill in where others left off. After 35 years building and repairing boats, and helping many others with project boats I started to realize there was something missing from all of the repair books, articles and web sites. Not that most of this information was not good, far from it much of it is very good. It just seemed there was always something missing. Most repair projects require many skills and methods, not all are always as cut and dry as presented in print and onliine.
A friend of mine used to always kid me when we were deep into a project that was not going as expected. Covered in dirt and sweat he would pause and say"Yeah textbook case simply replace the........... This sort of summed it up, nothing in the real world is "textbook case" and almost every project can turn into a real challenge in the blink of an eye.
So it is with this in mind I have started this site, I want to present realistic approaches to problems as well as providing guidance on the overall project. This would including planning, organizing and executing the repairs. There is by far more to a successful project than just knowing how to apply fiberglass or how to install a piece of equipment.
I want to share some of the hard lessons I have learned over a lifetime building and repairing boats. As a reader your input is important to me and I welcome comments on any and all of the material presented here.
The Subjects may vary some, but in the end they will all add up to the overall success of your boat project. Some information may be helpful to you, others may not, just pick and chose what you need as you needed it.
Thanks
Capt. Wayne Canning, AMS
