Like it or not winter is coming. As much as I hate the thought of no more boating for several months the reality is we must soon get ready for the cold weather. Even those of us who are lucky enough to live in an area where we do not get much snow and little if any harbor ice, we must still take precautions for the coming winter months. Most modern boats over about 25 feet are now equipped with some sort of shore power system. These systems add convenience and comfort to your boating experience but they can also bring hidden dangers. Your boats shore power is potentially the most dangerous equipment you have onboard. The real danger is in that you cannot always see, smell, or feel the danger. However there are some simple tests we can make to make sure our system is safe and stays that way.
