Jerry Jug Board ?
After seeing these things on boats of all sizes for years, I decided that I wanted one for myself. I know not what the proper name of this contraption is so I'll just call it a Jerry jug board. Seen on all manner of sailboats ,these boards stretch between two life line stantions and afford you the ability to lash plastic jugs of gas, diesel, water, or whatever to them to extend your cruising range. I had a teak board 1 1/2" thick, 5 1/2" wide and 5 ' long. I sanded it with 80 grit and took it to a friend who rounded the ends of the board and used a laminate cutter to finish the boards edges all around. I then sanded it with 220 grit and drilled a 1 1/2" hole every 8 inches in the surface of the board ( for affixing lines to hold the jugs ). I then laid on 3 coats of Cetol marine gloss finish. I mounted the board at each end with stainless steel U-bolts to life line stantions. So far not a single jug has been mounted to my board but man does it look salty.

Hi Jiles sounds like a nice project, did you do this on both sides of the boat or just 1? I ask because I wonder if the weight will effect sailing performance at all? Sounds like you have not tried that part yet, might have to wait till spring lol. Too freakin cold to be thinking about sailing now.

Jerry jug board
Shortly after installing the board I sailed over to South River from Oriental N.C. and spent the night. The next day we got underway and sailed for about four hours in the Neuse river. I didn't notice any difference in the sailing charicteristics of the boat. After all the board only weighs 10 or 12 pounds and I make sandwiches onboard that weigh more than that. Seriously though, when I lash a couple of full jerry jugs to that thing it may very well become an issue. I'll keep you informed.
